YOU ARE A HUMAN BEING NOT A HUMAN DOING

You are different from what you do; your actions are just a representation of your thoughts at a particular point in time. In life people usually judge you by your achievements and possessions, even though they are the result of your actions they are different from whom you are. Who you are is much more important than anything you have ever done in your life. You may not agree with this assertion, but let me ask you a question, how do you think someone who performed below standard at a particular task can raise their level to perform above standard in less than a week? It is the same person performing the same task at two different times with starkly different result. You surely know people who have performed so poorly at their exams when at school but went on to be extremely successful in their life.

You are a human being not a human doing is to say that your actions are not necessarily who you are, they represent you state of mind at a specific time in the past. You are extremely talented with the ability to accomplish things so great you cannot even begin to imagine them. Unfortunately being labelled according to your achievements so far has been started by the education system and seized upon by employers who seem to think that they have no other way of assessing your aptitude to the job they are offering than to check to see whether you have a bag of qualifications. The irony of the situation is that even after checking your qualifications; employers still want to talk to you.

Why do you think employers want to call you for a face to face interview? It an implicit acknowledgement that you cannot get the job on your qualifications only, even though your achievements may be important in seeing whether you have the right skill set, the deciding factor in getting that job is your attitude. The best way for employer to assess your attitude is to see you and talk to you. Your achievements might be impressive, but if you don’t have the right attitude and if your body language is not in alignment with your words, the employer will turn you down. If you are lacking in a particular skill, you can learn it as quickly as you want to, the situation will be different with your attitude because it is not easy to change. That is why Zig Ziglar said: “Your attitude not your aptitude determines your altitude”.

You are infinitely great and your ability to achieve anything you want is limitless, therefore liking your achievements to who you are is trying to limit the majestic and magnificent being that you are. I once read about a man who left school without being able to read and, went on to become one of the richest men in his community. As a rich man, he was still unable to read properly and was having to pay others help him write to his partners. Most people would not have believed this story to be true or possible until they read it and saw the man photograph in the newspaper. As a human being you are not and should not be defined by your achievements only because you are so much more, you have more than you think you have and your power to transform your life is limitless. You are a human being not to be confused with what you have done; you are definitely not a human doing because you are too great to be defined only by your achievements.
