FROM MY PERSPECTIVE

We might be looking at the same thing but we are not necessary seeing it the same way. The way you view the world is according to your belief system and, if you have been brought up to think that rich people are crook you will tend to see wealthy people as not trustworthy. Your upbringing couple with your schooling will define the person you are and shape your vision of the world. That is how most people have been programed to think in a certain way. Every time you look at a specific circumstance or event you make up your mind based on what you know. The way you see and judge the world around you is directly related to the kind of beliefs you have been fed from childhood to sometimes adulthood.

You always see things from your perspective and, your perspective depends largely on what you believe about the world. That is why two people looking at the same thing will come with sometimes come with different versions. A successful person looking at another successful person will never think in term how lucky the other person is? A less than successful person looking at a wealthy person will most of the time think that the person being observed is lucky. We spend our life judging others from our perspective because we can only go by what we know to be true to us. It is said when someone believe in something to be true, he or she will find the way to defend their views while consciously ignoring any evidence to the contrary.

So if you believe that all footballers are womanisers, you will find enough evidence to justify your views while refusing to acknowledge the possibility that some footballers could in fact be good role models for society or their community. Can we change our perspective or views of the world? The answer to this question is yes but, it will require a shift in our belief system, a rethink of the way we perceive the world and our environment. The first step in achieving this objective will be to ask yourself some difficult questions. Are you been served by the way you view the world? What are you gaining by continuously thinking about the world the way you think?  Is it to your advantage to revisit your views about the world? What are looking to achieve by doing so? The answers to these questions will be important in determining whether you will be able and willing to shift your perspective of the world.

We all need a reason to change and, if your reasons are not strong enough, it will be difficult for you to make that shift in your perspective. You need to be motivated especially when you are going to undertake an exercise as challenging as the process of revisiting your view about the world. Most people make that crucial shift because they have to not because they want to. It is also the reason why the majority will hang on to less than ideal objectives and resign themselves to living a frustrating life because they don’t have the courage to undertake the shift due to the lack of intrinsic motivation.
