WHAT ARE YOUR MENTAL FENCES?

What is stopping you from achieving your potential? Are your dreams still as important to you as when you first conceived them? Depending on where you are mentally, you might answer that you don’t know and, it is the response I get from most people I present with these questions. Your ability to achieve any goal is limitless; it will never be diminished by anyone except you. As human being, we are constantly comparing with others to see where we are and why we are not making a much progress as those who seem to be getting better with time while we are struggling. Wherever you are in your life, whatever you have tried until now, I can confidently tell you that you can do better. You are capable of the extraordinary, the astounding and the impossible. The reason this might sound strange to you is because your mind is refusing to accept that possibility and, if you dare to believe you will surprise yourself.

The fences stopping from moving forward are all in your head, do not be fooled into thinking that your circumstances alone can prevent you from achieving your dreams. What are the fences in your head, are they self-doubt, procrastination or fear of failure? If you doubt yourself you will be reluctant to take action, because you don’t believe in your ability to undertake a specific task or action. Self-doubt will kill your dream even before you take your first step; your actions are just a reflection of your thoughts. You cannot think of yourself as incapable of running the marathon and go ahead to register. Every time you are in doubt about your ability to undertake a task, you will stay stuck until you reverse that thinking and create a new belief to replace the doubt.

Procrastination is disease that affects many people all over the world and, it is the reason some people are always missing deadlines, delaying on their commitment and getting lazy. You try to stay away from a task you think will be difficult or take a long time to achieve. The problem here is in your mind, because the nature of the task you are trying to avoid cannot be changed but you can change your perception to see the same task in a different light. A woman who hated washing the dishes and was known for her dislike of undertaking that domestic task decided to change her perspective in order to overcome that problem. Every morning before doing any other chore in her house, she will wash the dishes while singing. She would usually claim aloud that washing the dishes to get rid of the germs on her hands.

No external power can stop you from achieve your dreams if you have made up your mind to make them happen. Your fences are only in your mind, you are responsible for create them in order to avoid failure or because you are scare of gaining freedom. You might not believe this, but some people who have been locked up for a long time are frighten of been given back their freedom as they would not know what to do with it. If the eagle does not deploy his wings to fly off the nest, it will never experience freedom and mastery of the sky. For the eagle to even discover his wings, it has to be push off the cliff by his mother. You will never know how good you are until you bravely step forward and accept the risk involved in starting that journey into the unknown to achieve your dreams. Do not let the fences in your mind stop you from experiencing the exaltation of reaching and scooping the stars.
